Kofax Alternative for Purchase Orders: PO Data Capture Without TotalAgility

PurchaseOrders is a Kofax alternative for teams that need purchase order data, not an enterprise capture platform. Kofax rebranded to Tungsten Automation on January 16, 2024, and its capture line now ships as Tungsten TotalAgility, Tungsten Capture, and Tungsten Transformation. Those are strong products sold by quote through a partner channel, and a deployment is a project. Here you sign up, upload a PO, and get Excel, CSV, JSON, or an API response. Try it on a real purchase order below.

Why Teams Look for a Kofax Alternative

Kofax spent three decades as the default name in high-volume document capture, and the technology still holds up. The friction is the shape of the purchase. Since January 2024 the company has been Tungsten Automation, the products carry Tungsten names, and buying any of the capture products means a sales conversation, usually with an implementation partner attached. If all you want is the header fields and the line-item table off a supplier PO, that is a lot of machinery to move.

The Name Changed, and Search Results Have Not Caught Up

Kofax announced its rebrand to Tungsten Automation on January 16, 2024. Kofax TotalAgility became Tungsten TotalAgility, Kofax Capture became Tungsten Capture, and Kofax Transformation became Tungsten Transformation. Half the comparison pages and reseller sites you find still use the old names, so buyers end up comparing two labels for the same product.

No Published Price for the Capture Platform

Tungsten does not publish list pricing for TotalAgility, Capture, or Transformation. The product pages route to a demo request or a contact form, and the company sells through a tiered global partner program with deal registration. Cost depends on modules, user counts, volume, and deployment model, which you find out after a call.

Capture Is Configured, Not Switched On

Tungsten documents its own transformation pipeline as OCR, classification, separation, extraction, formatting, and validation. Even with the TotalAgility Document Library of pretrained extraction models and the Copilot for Extraction feature, someone still defines document types, maps fields, and tunes validation rules before production. That work is why a partner is usually in the room.

The Platform Is Far Bigger Than One Document Type

Tungsten sells document and workflow automation, AP and AR automation, print and workplace automation, and PDF and eSignature. Tungsten Capture alone advertises well over a hundred connectors into ECM, ERP, and workflow systems. Breadth is the point of the product. It is also weight you carry if your output is a spreadsheet.

How PurchaseOrders Compares as a Kofax Alternative

PurchaseOrders reads one document type: the purchase order. The field set is already defined, there is no classification model to train and no separation profile to build, and you can test it on your own files before anyone asks for a budget number. It is a narrower tool on purpose.

One Document Type, Zero Configuration

PO number, supplier, ship-to and bill-to, order and delivery dates, payment terms, currency, and the full line-item table come back on the first upload. Nothing to classify, no batch class to design, no extraction locators to place on a template.

Live in Minutes, Not in a Project Plan

A capture rollout has scoping, sample collection, model tuning, validation design, and a go-live window. This has a signup form. If the extraction is wrong on your suppliers' layouts, you know that on day one instead of after a discovery phase.

Pricing You Can Read Before You Talk to Anyone

Tungsten quotes the capture platform privately through sales and resellers. PurchaseOrders publishes its plans and has a free tier, so procurement can evaluate the cost of the tool in the same session it evaluates the output quality.

Output Your Systems Already Accept

Download Excel or CSV with consistent headers, pull JSON from the REST API, or push to Google Sheets. When the destination is a spreadsheet, a database load, or a script you already wrote, you do not need a connector framework in between.

If the goal is a clean spreadsheet, the purchase order PDF to Excel converter gets there in one step, and developers can call the same engine through the purchase order API. Long orders live or die on the table, which is covered in purchase order line item extraction, and a backlog of scanned orders clears through bulk purchase order upload. Photographed or faxed POs go through purchase order image to Excel, and the underlying approach is explained in purchase order OCR vs AI extraction and in the purchase order parser overview. • Purchase order field set works out of the box
  • Free tier and self-serve signup for real testing

Tungsten Automation details were verified July 2026 from Tungsten's own product, partner, and product documentation pages and from the January 16, 2024 rebrand announcement; terms and product names change, so confirm current details at tungstenautomation.com. Tungsten genuinely wins on on-premises and private cloud deployment, scanner, MFP and mailroom capture, document type breadth, workflow orchestration, enterprise scale, and compliance depth, none of which PurchaseOrders does. Note also that Tungsten Power PDF is a desktop PDF editor with its own published pricing and is a different product from the Kofax Capture and TotalAgility platform this page compares. PurchaseOrders is a data capture layer: it reads a purchase order and returns header fields and line items as Excel, CSV, JSON, or a REST API response. It does not create purchase orders, route approvals, hold budgets, perform two-way or three-way matching, post to an ERP, run order-to-cash, or translate or transmit EDI. PurchaseOrders is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Tungsten Automation or Kofax.

Try the Kofax Alternative in 3 Steps

No demo request, no reseller, no scoping call. Upload a real purchase order and see the extracted data in seconds.

1

Upload a Purchase Order

Drag in a PDF, a scan, or a phone photo of a PO from any supplier. There is no document class to define first and no template to draw.

Tip: Start with your ugliest supplier layout. That is the one that decides whether a tool is worth it.

2

AI Extracts Every Field

The AI reads PO number, supplier, ship-to and bill-to, order and delivery dates, line items, SKUs, descriptions, quantities, units of measure, unit prices, terms, and totals.

3

Download or Send It Onward

Export clean Excel, CSV, JSON, or Google Sheets, or pull the same structured data through the REST API into whatever system you keep records in.

Kofax Alternative: Common Questions

Yes. Kofax announced on January 16, 2024 that it had renamed itself Tungsten Automation, and the products moved with it. Kofax TotalAgility is now Tungsten TotalAgility, Kofax Capture is Tungsten Capture, and Kofax Transformation is Tungsten Transformation. Nothing changed hands in the rebrand. Ownership stayed with Clearlake Capital and TA Associates, who bought the company in July 2022.

Clearlake Capital and TA Associates own it, having completed their purchase from Thoma Bravo in July 2022 on undisclosed terms. Before that the path ran through Lexmark, which acquired Kofax in 2015 for roughly one billion dollars, then Thoma Bravo, which bought Lexmark's enterprise software division including Kofax and ReadSoft in July 2017.

Tungsten Automation does not publish pricing for the Kofax capture platform. TotalAgility, Capture, and Transformation are quoted privately through the Tungsten sales team or an authorized partner, and the number depends on modules, user counts, document volume, and whether you deploy on-premises or in the cloud. The one exception is Power PDF, a desktop editor sold with published list pricing.

They are unrelated products that share a brand. Kofax Capture, now Tungsten Capture, is a server-based enterprise platform that scans, classifies, and extracts data from high volumes of documents. Kofax Power PDF, now Tungsten Power PDF, is a desktop PDF editor for creating, editing, and converting PDF files on one machine, sold as a perpetual license. Search results mix them constantly.

Yes. Tungsten TotalAgility and Tungsten Transformation extract data from purchase orders alongside invoices, order confirmations, and hundreds of other document types, and the TotalAgility Document Library ships thousands of pretrained extraction models. Purchase orders are one use case inside a general capture platform rather than the product's sole focus, so field mapping and validation still get configured for your layouts.

It depends on what you are replacing. For purchase orders specifically, a PO-focused tool like PurchaseOrders is the closest fit because the fields are pre-defined, you can sign up and test today, and pricing is published. If you need on-premises deployment, scanner and mailroom capture, or workflow orchestration across many document types, Tungsten remains the stronger option.

PurchaseOrders is capture only. It reads a purchase order and returns header fields and line items as Excel, CSV, JSON, or an API response, and that is the whole product. It does not create purchase orders, route approvals, hold budgets, perform two-way or three-way matching, post to an ERP, run order-to-cash, or translate or transmit EDI. Tungsten covers much of that ground.
